Christmas and 4th Quarter Sell Out Events

Oct 04, 2021
A Christmas red visual that let you already feel Christmas.

Time is flying .... and we are already - officially - in Q4!

So why should you care?

Well, the 4th quarter is the most important quarter for the beauty industry. It is there where a lot of turnover is done.

What are the Sell-Out Events to keep in mind?

There is a number of sell-out events to remember

Single's Day

On 11.11. there is Single's Day, where singles should buy themselves presents. This shopping event - introduced by Alibaba in China - is hugely successful. First and foremost successful in Asia and in Asia in China, but the West is catching up. It is actually the biggest single one day online shopping event world wide.

Black Friday

The Black Friday event is most likely the most popular online shopping event worldwide. It is the day, where you can make a real bargain. Event brands that do no or little discounting do have Black Friday offers. It is so popular that already the whole week - not only the Friday - is now turned into 'Black Shopping Week'. In 2021 Black Friday falls on November 26th.

Cyber Monday

Black Friday is followed by 'Cyber Monday'. Originally conceived as an online only event to push online sales, it is now popular offline as well. Some sites simply take their Black Friday offers and let them also run that Monday... well think about it. Use that special event to also celebrate your brand. This year Cyber Monday is November 29th.

Hanukkah

From November 28th to December 6th 2021 we have Hanukkah. Not necessarily know for massive gifting, small presents are exchanged. So think what you could offer to your customers....

Christmas

Of course the big event is - especially in the western world - Christmas which is celebrated either on December 24th or December 25th. This depends on which country we are talking about. But not only think about the day itself. But also about the run up: Advent calendar (also in an online version), or 12 days of Christmas are always good for special offers and as a reason to communicate to your audience (think email, think social media post...).

You should not only think about Christmas itself, but there are events around Christmas that are equally important, or should be equally important to you: In the Netherlands December 6th is a day of celebration, so in Germany (to a much lesser extend though)... in the UK Boxing Day (December 26th) is a big shopping day, where shoppers go hunting for offers. So in case you are serving an international crowd, you should be aware of these days... always a chance to drop a great offer.

New Year's

On December 31st, we have New Year's Eve and of course every one wants to look her, his best. So again a chance to sell your products and services. Why don't you couple this with Christmas offers?

As we have seen there are at least 6 major shopping events in the 4th quarter. And even some more if you dig into local cultures, as highlighted above.... It is this time of year where your online shop could get a boost.

One piece of advise: This year people will start shopping earlier than last year. First, because they want to make sure that they do not stand empty handed given the challenges in the supply chain because of the pandemic. Second, people crave for a good time with their family and friends, and again want to make sure that they get this covered in time.

What are your thoughts about the 4th quarter sell out?
